Automotive Telematics Newsgroup
Update March 2003
ATX and Qualcomm, two of the earliest American players on the field, have both reported major growth in their business revenues, and Aisin and Hyundai are also ramping up their involvement in the industry, with plans to roll out their American operations. Also in the USA, OnStar is celebrating wider adoption; amongst its recent new business gains is a contract with Audi, to run alongside OnStar's gain the Subaru North American business.
In Britain, Norwich Union, the major insurance company, is rolling out advanced pilot schemes geared at reducing insurance cover costs by using telematics; the pay-per-mile scheme is expected to finally break the existing 'one size fits all' standard insurance model.
In a bid to build on its existing North American business, ATX has announced its intention to move into Europe. In North America, ATX provides telematics services to European-based automotive manufacturers Mercedes-Benz and BMW; it is expected that they will try to become involved in the provision of telematics services to these two marques first, and then push into other manufacturers' operations.
ATX's core service is the provision of emergency response control centre services
ATX's expansion plans into Europe include the development of a call center and data center with information technology, marketing and customer service operations. ATX anticipates its European headquarters will be located in or near Düsseldorf, Germany. ATX Europe will initially have approximately 60 to 70 employees.
